As Jim O'Connor took the oath of office last night before a standing-room-only crowd at the Belmont City Council meeting, he affirmed his role in his blue blood family of police officers, chiefs, and SWAT members. O'Connor is a fourth-generation police officer.
O'Connor, a graduate of Serra High School, College of San Mateo and the South Bay Training Academy, was introduced by before being sworn in by City Clerk Terri Cook. O'Connor's mother, Janet, then pinned the new badge on her son's uniform.
After the ceremony, the young O'Connor was congratulated by family members, including is father, Mark O'Connor, who is Hillsborough's Chief of Police, his uncle Matt, a former Hillsborough Chief of Police, and his cousin Matthew, an officer and SWAT member with the South San Francisco Police Department.

Mark O'Connor said that although his son had worked with police agencies throughout the area, he wanted launch his career Belmont.
"He came to my office one day and said he wanted to work in Belmont," said Mark O'Connor.
"When I asked him why, he said it was the people of Belmont and the teamwork of the department."
