Suspect in San Mateo Armed Robbery Still at Large

San Mateo police continue to investigate the robbery that occurred at a check cashing business on El Camino Real. No injuries were reported.

On Monday morning, at just after 11:00 am, numerous San Mateo police officers and on-duty detectives responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Check N Go California located at 3880 South El Camino Real.

Investigators on the scene determined that the suspect, a black male in his late teens to early 20s, about 5’8 to 5’10 in height, committed a robbery of the establishment while armed with a silver handgun. The suspect fled from the Check N Go on foot, no vehicle was seen.


Officers saturated the area and conducted an extensive canvass and area check for the suspect. The suspect was not located and remains at large. SMPD is continuing to actively investigate this case and will pursue the suspect or suspects in this case relentlessly to bring the responsible party to justice.

This is what is known at this time: 

  • The suspect is a black male in his late teens to early 20’s, about 5’8 to 5’10 in height, wearing a plaid shirt over a gray hooded sweatshirt. This subject was armed with a silver handgun carried in his waistband. He may have been on foot in the area of 38th Avenue and El Camino Real in San Mateo during the time just before and after 11:00 am on Monday December 5th.
  • Investigators are looking for leads in this case. Any community member having information related to the robbery incident which occurred in the 3800 block of South El Camino on Monday at just after 11:00 am, is encouraged to contact the San Mateo Police Department:
