Suspect Arrested for Assaulting Belmont Officer

Police encountered the 41-year-old man while responding to a disturbance call at a local coffee shop.

A 41-year-old man was arrested by Belmont police Sunday, Oct. 27 after he allegedly kicked an officer who was responding to a disturbance call at a local coffee shop.

The incident started around noon when Belmont Police received a 911 call about a man standing at the intersection of El Camino Real and Ralson Avenue and yelling at traffic. As officers were responding additional 911 callers reported the man moved near Peet’s Coffee at 1200 El Camino Real and was fighting with another man.

When the officers attempted to talk with the man, later identified as Karl Singer of San Carlos, he became hostile and aggressive and eventually kicked one of them. Responding officers then had to physically restrain the man with the assistance of other Belmont Police officers and San Mateo County Sheriff’s deputies.
