PVHS Grad Dies in Motorcycle Speeding Crash

A 22-year-old man, Jesse Boyer, died early Thursday when he lost control of his speeding motorcycle on a freeway overpass in Oakland, the CHP said. One news report said he was from El Cerrito, while a later report indicated he was from El Sobrante.

A 22-year-old graduate of Pinole Valley High School who plunged to his death off of an Oakland freeway when his motorcycle crashed early Thursday apparently was from El Sobrante, not El Cerrito.

El Cerrito Patch on Friday published a link to a San Francisco Chronicle article citing the California Highway Patrol saying the victim was Jesse Boyer of El Cerrito, but a later article by the Contra Costa Times citing family members indicated he was from El Sobrante.

The Times headline said, "Family, friends mourn El Sobrante motorcyclist killed in freeway fall."

His Facebook page also indicates that he lived in El Sobrante.

The Contra Costa Times also reported: "According to the California Highway Patrol, Boyer was riding the 1994 Yamaha on the flyover connecting northbound Interstate 880 to eastbound Interstate 80 when, for an unknown reason, he failed to negotiate a left curve and struck the concrete divider."

"Officer Sam Morgan said Boyer was flung from his cycle and over the barrier and fell nearly 100 feet," the newspaper said. "He was pronounced dead at the scene."

Boyer had been a senior deck hand at Commodore Cruises & Events in Alameda, the Times said.
