Police Seek Residents' Help in Finding San Carlos Burglars

A memo sent out Thursday warned of thieves entering through windows in San Carlos.

Law enforcement wants the public's help in finding burglars who have been entering San Carlos homes through open windows.

The San Carlos police bureau of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office released a memo on Thursday alerting residents to the crimes.

San Carlos endured two burglaries and one attempted burglary in April, and all three are believed to be related, the memo said.

“All three burglaries were to unoccupied single family dwellings west of El Camino and we believe they all occurred during the day,” the memo said.

“Entry was made or attempted through a side window that was out of view of the street. Our investigation has led us to believe that in two cases, windows were left unlocked and the suspect gained entry. In the other case, the suspect pried off a screen only to be met with a locked window. The suspect left without gaining entry once he confronted a locked window.”

The memo said while burglaries are down in comparison with prior years, residents should still be on alert.

Two crime prevention measures can be taken: Install secure locks and lock all doors and windows when leaving home; and know your neighborhood, know your neighbors, and report anything and anyone that is out of place.

The memo was sent via eNotify, an e-mail subscription service offered by the city.
