Police Release Sketch of Sexual Assault Suspect

Investigators released a sketch and an updated description Friday of a man who attacked and robbed a woman as she arrived for work in San Carlos Wednesday morning.

The victim was unlocking the rear entrance of a business in the 1600 block of Laurel Street around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday when a large man grabbed her from behind and said he had a knife, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

The victim was forced indoors and the suspect tried to remove an article of her clothing, according to the sheriff's office.

A security alarm was activated, prompting the suspect to flee. As he left the building, he stole the victim's purse, sheriff's officials said.

The victim was not injured in the attack, and a knife was never seen. No suspect vehicle was seen or heard.

Responding deputies from the sheriff's office and Redwood City police searched the area but did not find the suspect. The victim was able to describe her attacker and worked with a police artist to create a sketch.

The suspect is described as a white man in his early 30s who has blue eyes, stands more than 6 feet tall and weighs around 300 pounds. He was wearing a black San Francisco Giants baseball cap, a dark hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

Investigators emphasized that this type of crime is extremely rare in downtown San Carlos. However, residents are asked to remain vigilant about their surroundings, especially when it is dark.
