Police Release Sketch of Burglary Suspect

The has released a sketch of one of two suspects of a on Hillman Avenue on Wednesday afternoon.

The Police Department this afternoon also released a photo of a vehicle similar to the one related to the burglary.

The burglary occurred just before 5 p.m. Wednesday in the 1700 block of Hillman Avenue. The victim, 63, was in the garage of her home when she heard a car pull into her driveway, Belmont police Lt. Pat Halleran said.

When the woman reached her driveway, she saw a white sedan with a passenger inside, and another person walking toward her.

The man, described as Hispanic and in his 20s with a medium build and about 5 feet 6 inches tall, told the woman he was working on the property behind hers and needed to show her something in her backyard, Halleran said.

As they walked toward the backyard, the man said something in Spanish into a hand-held radio.

The woman, who doesn't speak Spanish, became suspicious and walked back toward her house.

The man tried to stall the woman and spoke again in Spanish into his hand-held radio, according to Halleran.

But the woman continued toward her house. When she reached her garage, she heard her front door slam shut.

She looked outside and saw the sedan pulling out of her driveway with two people inside. The car was last seen driving west on Hillman Avenue.

The woman immediately called 911 and soon discovered jewelry was missing.

The man who distracted the woman was wearing a blue baseball cap with the letter “B” on the front, a white T-shirt with no logo or design and jeans. The second suspect, who apparently entered the house, is unknown. The vehicle is described as an older white 4-door sedan, similar to a Ford Taurus.

Police say it's unknown whether this case is related to a recent incident when a and tried to gain access to a resident's backyard.
