Police Have Suspect in April Belmont Burglary Spree

Three burglaries occurred in one day on Valley View, Mezes and Manzanita avenues. The suspect, 20-year-old Melvin Bellard is still at large and is considered dangerous.

No sooner had Belmont police completed an incident report about a residential burglary on April 5, then they received a call about another….and then another. In all, three homes were burglarized between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. that day, but police now believe they have identified a suspect.

The suspect, 20-year-old Melvin Bellard of San Francisco is still at large and considered dangerous.

Also on April 5, San Mateo police responded to a report of an interrupted residential burglary in the 600 block of Edgewood Road, When San Mateo police responded, the suspects had already fled the scene. Around the same time, Hillsborough police engaged in a pursuit of a white Chevy Malibu leaving Hillsborough and heading onto northbound Interstate Highway 280, police said. 

Items were discarded from the moving vehicle, which Daly City police ultimately located, abandoned, in San Francisco.

The Malibu was established as the suspect vehicle in this case. The involved burglaries match the now commonly seen door-knock method of operation by the suspect.

Investigation revealed connections to burglary cases in both Hillsborough and Belmont. San Mateo police, Belmont police, and Hillsborough police have been working collaboratively to identify and arrest the suspect.

San Mateo police currently hold a warrant for Bellard’s arrest stemming from the April 5 burglary and other charges are pending.

Bellard is described as 5 feet 9 inches tall, 170 pounds and with a stocky build, according to police.

San Mateo, Belmont and Hillsborough are actively seeking to locate Bellard and are asking for the public’s help. Bellard is 20 years old, black male 5’9’’ and approx. 170 lbs. with stocky build.. Bellard is considered dangerous. Police ask anyone who sees Bellard, to call 9-1-1 immediately.
