Nikon Precision Honored by Belmont Police Department

The company donated 12 COOLPIX cameras for use in police patrol cars.

In a special presentation at last week's meeting of the Belmont City Council, honored Nikon Precision, Inc. for its continuing support of the city's police department.

Specifically, the Belmont-based optical lens, photo-lithography, and precision equipment company, has donated 12 COOLPIX digital cameras for use in police patrol cars. Similar donations were made in 2003 and 2008. The total value of the cameras donated since 2003 is approximately $11,000, according to police.

Accepting the plaque on behalf of Nikon, was Cecilia Vidal, chair of the company's charitable contribution committee. Also in attendance was Rose Aquino, a project engineer and Nikon's senior purchasing specialist.

"We are involved in the community and we like to do things for the community," said Vidal. Aquino added that the company is also a sponsor of the

Belmont police say that digital cameras are an indispensible tool used by the department.  According to a police, "The accurate documenting of crime scenes, accident scenes and other incidents is vital to the police mission. The on-going support of the department by Nikon, though its donation of photographic equipment, has allowed the police department to ensure that patrol officers, traffic officers and other members of the department have quality dependable equipment, while conserving limited fiscal resources."

Nikon Precision will celebrate its 30th anniversary this year. Rose Aquino, one of the company's original employees, will soon be featured in a Patch story on local business leaders in the community.
