Mountain Lion Killed in Redwood City Backyard

Officials said cat posed a threat to residents' safety.

A mountain lion that wandered into a Redwood City neighborhood this morning has been killed by authorities because it posed a risk to residents' safety, officials said.

The cat was spotted at about 8:15 a.m. near Alameda de las Pulgas and Whipple Avenue.

Police responded and set up a perimeter, trapping the mountain lion in the backyard, Redwood City spokesman Malcolm Smith said.

Officers notified nearby residents about the situation, and an automated phone call was sent out to those living in the area, he said.

No injuries have been reported, and all the residents are safely in their homes, police said.
