Mountain Biker Rescued From Belmont Ravine

Due to steep terrain, Belmont firefighters were assisted by other agencies in pulling the biker up the 20-foot ravine.

A 37-year-old San Carlos mountain biker is recovering today after falling 20-feet down a ravine while riding on a trail in a Belmont canyon on Thursday morning.

Belmont fire and police units responded to a call at 11:45 a.m. Thursday in the open space area east of the 2600 block of Somerset Drive on a report of a mountain biker who had fallen off the trail. The incident was reported by another biker who witnessed the fall.

According to Capt. Pat Halleran of the Belmont Police Department, the victim, whose name has not been released, was found off the Chaparral Trail, about one mile in from the gate in the 2600 block of Somerset Drive.  Due to the remote location and steep terrain, Belmont firefighters were assisted by firefighters from the Foster City, Woodside and CalFire.

Halleran says it took firefighters about an hour to rescue the victim, who was transported to an area hospital with moderate non-life threatening injuries.
