Man Assaulted Outside Belmont Peet's Coffee

The incident occurred Tuesday morning; police are investigating leads in the case.

On Tuesday, at approximately 11:35 a.m., responded to a report of an assault outside located at 1200 El Camino Real.

While the investigation is on-going, the following is known at this time:

Two men became involved in an altercation in front of Peet's, during which the victim, a 33-year-old Belmont resident, was struck with a crowbar. The suspect, who witnesses describe as a Hispanic male, approx. 5'10" with a stocky build, fled in a dark colored 1990s Acura sedan prior to police arrival.

The victim was treated at the scene by Belmont Fire Department paramedics and transported to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries. 

While the victim in this case is not cooperating with investigators, there are indications that the suspect and victim knew each other and today’s assault may have stemmed from a prior on-going dispute.
