Hallmark Roofing Couple Facing Felony Charges

John and Camille Applegate could face up to five years in prison for workers' comp fraud and tax evasion.

 

Investigators from the state's Department of Insurance uncovered a range of unfair wage reporting and unpaid workers' compensation premiums in a large-scale case involving Belmont-based Hallmark Roofing. 

As reported in the San Mateo Daily Journal, John and Camile Applegate, the roofing company's owners, allegedly failed to report employee wages and did not pay workers' compensation premiums from 2007-2011.

According to the San Mateo District Attorney's office, the Applegates are being charged with 24 felony counts for workers' compensation and five counts for tax evasion.

The couple was arrested on April 19 and are out on bail. They are due back in court on May 22 for an arraignment hearing, the Journal reports.
