Heavy Smoke Seen from Vehicle Fire on Monserat Avenue

A witness shares her photo of smoke from this afternoon's vehicle fire.

UPDATE 9:32 p.m.: Police say the fire only burned a vehicle and never spread to a structure, though at one point a structure was threatened.

Police added that no injuries were reported in connection with the blaze.

One resident reported smelling burning rubber in the area at the time of the fire.

UPDATE 6:12 p.m.: Firefighters battled a blaze on Monserat Avenue late this afternoon.

Police said the call initially came in as a vehicle fire at 4:09 p.m at 2717 Monserat Ave. The incident was switched to a structure fire soon after.

The fire has been controlled, and a second alarm was never rang in.

Cheryl Hardin was at Cipriani Dog Park when the blaze broke out. She snapped the photo attached to this article, and said adults at a nearby day care center were aware of the fire and called a fire drill for the kids.
