UPDATE: Fatal Circle Oaks Crash Victim ID'd

Cody A. Dalen was pronounced dead at the scene.

UPDATE: 9:32 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013.

A 19-year-old Vallejo man was pronounced dead at the scene of a solo vehicle crash at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday on southbound Highway 121, 0.9 miles south of Circle Oaks Drive.

Cody A. Dalen was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Adam A. Luzzi, 18, of Fairfield, who was airlifted by CHP helicopter to Queen of the Valley Hospital. A second passenger, Antonio Del Castillo, 17 of Fairfield, was taken to the hospital by ambulance, said CHP Officer C. Correa.

Correa said the three men were part of a caravan of cars driving home from Lake Berryessa when the vehicle went over a 40-foot embankment.

CHP Sgt. W. Bradshaw was on patrol traveling northbound on Highway 121 when he noticed people from the car caravan out of their cars, trying to help the crash victims. Bradshaw notified dispatch and then climbed down the embankment to aid at the scene, Correa said.

Two of the men were trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by CalFire Napa and other emergency personnel, Correa said. He had no immediate word on the two survivors' conditions, but he said that they were conscious and coherent at the scene and that their injuries did not appear to be life threatening at that time.

Correa said there was no reason to believe alcohol or drugs were involved. The cause of the crash is under investigation, he said.

Representatives from the Napa County coroner's office were called to the site of a crash in rural Napa County on Sunday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol said.

A spokeswoman for CalFire Napa said one person was confirmed dead and three others were being examined at Queen of the Valley Medical Center.

The crash was reported at about 1:45 p.m. on state Highway 121 near Circle Oaks Drive in the tiny community of Circle Oaks, about 12 miles northeast of downtown Napa, CHP Officer James Evans said. According to CHP dispatchers, a car went 40 feet down an embankment about 1 mile north of South Circle Oaks Drive.

Two occupants of a vehicle were reportedly trapped, Evans said, and officers at the scene summoned the coroner's office at 2:12 p.m. The roadway was cleared by 4:23 p.m, the CHP said.

It was unclear if more than one vehicle was involved in the crash.

In that area east of Castle Peak, Highway 121 is known as Monticello Road.

bravely said behind the cloak of ANONYMITY. your words are meaningless and fall on deaf ears because you haven't the courage to speak up as a true human being. It's easy to accuse when you weren't there, you have no idea what happened, and yet you spit BLAME on someone who is not here to defend himself. Man-up, Woman-up or shut-up!

Sherry mcgatity your lunatic. I choose to be anonymous because I know the driver and a few others that were a part of that caravan personally. They are friends. Your statement is dumb. People don't just wreck that bad because someone came in they're lane or whatever your demented assumption is. It is evident and factual that the driver was driving irresponsibly. Plane and simple. There are text messages from occupants following the would be doomed car telling the driver to slow the heck down. Relax and know your place Sherry. Your just some citizen reading the story you don't know who these people are personally.

And Michael P we are not from Vallejo. That's a low blow. Hood people that lack class, etiquette, and morals aren't the only negligent drivers...SOME suburban teens that reside in Green Valley also drive like parasites.

Anonymous, you are the only one delivering "low blows". You have no reasoning power about any of this, and obviously have "mental issues". Now run along and let the grownups have their discussion.
