Update: San Carlos Marathon Runners Confirmed Safe

Two runners from Belmont and four from San Carlos were registered as participants in today's Boston Marathon. Patch has confirmed that at least two runners from San Carlos are safe.

Update: Monday 9:00 p.m.

San Carlos resident Debbie Denton, who was in Boston today watching her daughter Emily run in the marathon, sent this note letting friends and family in San Carlos know they are both safe and sound:

"Hi all, I am in Boston right now.  My daughter ran the Boston marathon.   As you know, it is chaos here right now.  We are fine, but very shaken up the by the experience. Anyway, I am supposed to be home tomorrow in time to do Paws for Tales, but the flights are likely to be affected. I think the airport is still closed.  I hope to make it, but just in case, I wanted to let you all know where I am.

Update: Monday 1:20 p.m.--- information of casualties and injured.

A day of celebration has turned into tragedy and chaos as two explosions take place about an hour after the first man crossed the finished line in Boston this Monday.

The Boston Police have confirmed two dead and 23 injured—though some other new outlets have the figure much higher. Here's a link to the Boston PD police scanner.

According to the Boston Athletic Association website, two runners registered for the race from Belmont, four from San Carlos. Of those, all but one had already crossed the finish line. Patch has confirmed that San Carlos runner Shelly Centis is safe and uninjured.

San Carlos participants:

*Another participant, John Bricker, lists San Carlos as his home town on Facebook, but is not registered on the race's official website as being from San Carlos. Bricker is reported safe and uninjured.

Belmont participants:

It's likely that others from the Bay Area travelled to Boston to give runners  support. Patch will continue to report this story as it develops and bring news about our local runners as we hear more.

There is no confirmation about what may have caused the explosion.
