Early Morning Gunshots Heard in Belmont Canyon

No injuries were reported; Belmont police and San Mateo County sheriff's deputies searched nearby trails and neighborhood, but found no suspects.

On Thursday, November 24, 2011, at approximately 3:40 am, two citizens, who live in the area of Wakefield Dr and Elder Dr, reported that they heard the sound of several gun shots and people talking in a heavily wooded area near the Belmont Open Space Trail System.  The area where the gun shots were heard was determined to be in a canyon behind these two streets.  

Belmont Police Officers and San Mateo County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the area and also heard the sound of several gun shots and what sounded like two males talking in an area near John Brooks Trail.  One entry to this trail starts on Somerset Dr at Wakefield Dr.

Officers on scene verbally identified themselves as Police Officers.  At that time, the gun shots and talking had stopped.  The area behind the residences was searched with negative results.  Additionally, the area was checked for suspicious vehicles and people with negative results.  Another search along John Brooks Trail was conducted in the morning at approximately 7:30 am.  There was no evidence located, no injuries were reported, and no damage to any property was found.
