DUI-Related Crash at El Camino Real and Harbor Injures Child

A 5-year-old girl was injured and a 55-year-old Redwood City resident arrested for alleged child endangerment and DUI.

Two people, including a 5-year-old girl, were injured in a collision at El Camino Real and Harbor Boulevard on Thursday afternoon, police said today.

Officers responded to the scene at about 4:10 p.m. and discovered a 2002 Mazda Protege had rear-ended a 2009 BMW sedan, Belmont police Lt. Pat Halleran said.

The driver of the BMW, a 60-year-old Belmont woman, and a 5-year-old girl riding in the Mazda were taken to area hospitals with injuries, Halleran said.

Both are expected to survive.

The girl's grandmother and driver of the Mazda, 55-year-old Alla Hajiyeva of Redwood City, was not injured but was arrested at the scene on suspicion of DUI resulting in injury and child endangerment, both felonies. Hajiyeva was booked into the San Mateo County Jail in Redwood City.
