Update: Police Believe Driver in Hallmark Dr. Crash Did Not Apply Brakes
The driver of a Dodge Caravan hit a parked Volvo SUV on Hallmark Drive Monday afternoon. Police believe the driver may have experienced a medical problem just before the crash.
A 79-year-old Belmont woman was injured Monday, when the Dodge Caravan she was driving collided with a parked Volvo SUV in the 2700 block of Hallmark Drive at approximately 4:00 p.m.
The driver was treated at the scene by paramedics and was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A preliminary investigation by the indicates that the driver, who was southbound on Hallmark Drive, had an undetermined medical problem, drifted from the traffic lane and collided with the Volvo SUV that was parked at the curb. While speed was not a factor, it appears that the driver did not apply the brakes before the collision and the impact pushed the SUV approximately 30 feet. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
"We were all in the backyard with the kids when we heard the crash," said Leyla Galatin.
Galatin's children were having a playdate with Pavlina Romans' children when they heard the crash and came out to the street to find Romans' car had been struck. As police gathered information, Pavlina and her son cleared the car seats and other items out of the Volvo.
