County to Remain ‘Extra Vigilant’ After Boston Marathon Explosions

San Mateo County Sheriff Greg Munks said the area's Office of Emergency Services has increased its state of awareness.

Counties across the country, including San Mateo County, have reached out to residents asking them to be alert after the explosions at the Boston Marathon Monday.

The San Mateo County area Office of Emergency Services along with local, state and federal partners have increased their states of awareness, said Sheriff Greg Munks, who also offered his condolences to the families and public safety workers in the Boston area.

“Please be assured that my staff is tracking all new information and leads that may affect California, and remain extra vigilant with increased patrols in our communities,” Munks said in a statement.

No suspects are in custody yet after the attacks.

“I, along with our Police and Fire Chiefs agree this is a harsh reminder that the threat of violence or natural disaster is always present,” Munks said. “We continue to ask you, as a community member to be our “eyes and ears.’”  We all share the responsibility for our public safety and security.
