A car traveling westbound on Chula Vista Friday at approximately 3:45 p.m. veered off the road and hit a power pole, shearing the pole and causing it to fall at a 45-degree angle, cutting off power to residences in the surrounding neighborhood. The road is closed at this time. There were no injuries in the accident.
According to Lt. Pat Halleran of the Belmont Police Department, Chula Vista between Solana Drive and Escondido Way will be closed for several hours until PG&E can stabilize the pole.
Halleran says PG&E is on site now and crews have de-energized the pole and no wires are exposed. He added that some customers may have power restored shortly, however, it may take up to eight hours to have power back on completely in the neighborhood.
Because road is closed, Halleran suggested that motorists who typically use Chula Vista as a cut through to Alameda de las Pulgas, take an alternate route (Ralston Avenue to Alameda).
The accident is still under investigation.
Belmont Patch will update this story as information becomes available.
