Carjacking Suspect Located in Half Moon Bay, High School on Lockdown

A carjacking suspect out of Oakland was located in Half Moon Bay early this morning, according to police.

The man was found in the area of Main Street and Highway 92 near Half Moon Bay High School, prompting school officials and law enforcement to place the school campus on lockdown for public safety, said San Mateo Sheriff's Office Dep. Rebecca Rosenblatt.

The suspect is no longer in the area, said Rosenblatt, and police are now pursuing the suspect in the San Mateo area. It is believed he tried to carjack another car out of Half Moon Bay, according to Rosenblatt.

Students who were early to school before the lockdown were told to stay in the gym. Others were turned away at the entrance on Lewis Foster Drive by an officer and ended up at waiting at local coffee shops until receiving word that the campus was open again.

The high school is now open.
