Caltrain Fatally Strikes Person on Tracks in San Mateo

The incident occurred at about 3:15 p.m.

Updated 5:04 p.m.: From Caltrain: The northbound track was opened about 5:00 p.m.  Trains are traveling through the area at reduced speed.

Southbound train No. 158 is 15 minutes late.

Southbound train No. 362 just left Millbrae on time.

Updated 4:18 p.m.: From Caltrain: Southbound train No. 270, a local train that terminates in Gilroy, will be combined train No. 372, and leave the San Francisco station at 5:14 p.m.  The combination train will make all local stops and terminate in Gilroy.

Southbound train No. 158 is 15 minutes late.

Southbound train No. 260 is about 20 minutes late (at San Mateo now).

Northbound train No. 257 is 30 minutes late.

Updated 4:06 p.m.: From Caltrain: Southbound train No. 270, a local train that terminates in Gilroy, has left the San Francisco station.  It will be combined with train No. 372, an express train.   The combination train will make all local stops and terminate in Gilroy.

Southbound train No. 158 is 10 minutes late.

Northbound train No. 257 is 20 minutes late.

BART and SamTrans are accepting all Caltrain tickets.

Updated 3:48 p.m.: From Caltrain: Southbound train No. 158 is stopped at Burlingame.  It will stop on the southbound platform in San Mateo.  After that, northbound train No. 157 will travel on the southbound track through the scene, stopping on the southbound platform in San Mateo.

The southbound track was opened at 3:40 p.m.  Trains will be single-tracking around the scene.  All passengers at the San Mateo station will get on and off the train on the southbound platform.

The train involved in the fatality, No. 155, is a local train and left San Jose Diridon Station at 2:10 p.m. It was due in San Francisco at 3:41 p.m.

Updated 3:22 p.m.: Northbound Caltrain No. 155 struck and killed a person on the tracks at First Avenue in San Mateo at about 3:15 p.m. today, an agency spokeswoman said. The train is stopped at the scene. SamTrans is accepting all Caltrain tickets while the emergency is investigated.
