Burglars Pose as Caltrans Workers in Woodside

The two suspects remain at large.

Two people burglarized a home in unincorporated Woodside last week when they posed as Caltrans workers, and the San Mateo County Sheriff's office has released more information about the wanted men.

The burglary took place in the 3500 block of Tripp Road at about 2:25 p.m. Friday.

A brown-eyed, heavyset, olive-skinned man wearing a yellow hard hat and blue jacket with gold lettering knocked on the victim's door on Tripp Road. The suspect said he was from Caltrans and needed to check the backyard for the possibility of a landslide, according to the sheriff's office.

While the victim was distracted, an unknown second suspect entered the residence and took women's jewelry, including three silver necklaces and two watches. Their values remain undetermined.

According to the sheriff's office, the resident became suspicious and asked the worker more questions about his identification.

The suspect then became nervous and fled in a silver or gray SUV.

As he left, he called out "Steve," indicating he may have had an accomplice, the sheriff's office said.

Sheriff's Lt. Ray Lunny said this was the only recent reported case and that sheriff's deputies are looking throughout the county for the suspect or other similar robberies.

A description of the second man was not available.
