Belmont Police Nab Suspects Believed Responsible for Recent Thefts

The two suspects were arrested Wednesday night.

The Belmont Police Department on Wednesday night arrested two suspects believed to be responsible for the in Belmont.

Travis Castellanos, 21, of South San Francisco, and 20-year-old Jenna Montani of San Mateo were taken into custody at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday and booked into San Mateo County Jail on charges related to the thefts, Belmont police Capt. Dan DeSmidt said.

Detectives believe the two may be responsible for hundreds of thefts throughout the Peninsula, and are coordinating with area law enforcement officials as part of the investigation, DeSmidt said.

Wednesday night was the third time Castellanos had been arrested in Belmont for theft or burglary in the past 18 months, according to DeSmidt.

Each time he has been booked and charged with felonies, and was recently released from the San Mateo County Jail following a May arrest in which he allegedly he took property from several cars and then led Belmont officers on a that ended when he and another female accomplice crashed into the front of a house in San Carlos.

Detectives have recovered dozens of stolen items including cell phones, gift cards, personal electronics, purses, wallets, backpacks, and check books following Wednesday night's arrests. Victims are being called to identify the stolen property.
