Belmont Police Investigating String of Burglaries

The burglaries are likely linked to a ring that has also hit San Mateo and Hillsborough

Three homes were hit by burglars Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. and Belmont Police are investigating whether they are connected to a man who knocked on a neighbor's door inquiring whether their car was for sale.

Burglars hit homes on the 1600 block of Manzanita, the 1700 block of Valley View and the 2000 block of Mezes. Police are looking into whether they are linked to recent burglaries in Hillsborough and San Mateo.

A Belmont resident told police a suspicious man knocked on her door that morning to ask whether her car was for sale. It wasn't, nor was it listed.

He is described as an African American in his mid 20s with a stocky build, a gold grill on his front teeth, wearing a red sweatshirt or jacket.

In the rash of recent burglaries, police said, someone knocks on the door to see if someone is home and if there is no answer, they go to the side or rear of the house and break in.
