Belmont Police Execute Search Warrant in Connection With Burglaries

Detectives executed the search warrant last week in connection with the nearly 30 burglaries that have taken place in Belmont recently.

Belmont police detectives executed a search warrant in the East Bay last week in connection with the string of burglaries that have plagued Belmont this summer.

With the help of Newark and Fremont officers, Belmont detectives executed the search warrant at a home in the 5700 block of St. Paul Drive in the city of Newark at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 18, Belmont Police Lt. Pat Halleran said.

Belmont investigators obtained the search warrant as part of their ongoing investigation into the nearly 30 residential burglaries that have occurred in Belmont since May, according to Halleran.

Detectives were lead to the home after they learned stolen property that had been taken during burglaries in Belmont was being sold on the Internet allegedly by suspects associated with the residence, Halleran said.

Detectives seized property and evidence from the residence, including laptop computers, cell phones and other personal electronics.

In addition, detectives found and seized several driver’s licenses, social security cards, three firearms, narcotics and cash.

A number of suspects were detained at the residence and one suspect, Ernesto Granados, 39, was arrested on suspicion of a parole violation, Halleran said.

“The execution of this search warrant is not the end, but another step in an ongoing and evolving investigation,” Belmont Police Chief Don Mattei said in a statement.

“The fact that suspects in the East Bay were involved in selling stolen property from Belmont and other Peninsula cities points to the reality that crime is regional and inter-agency cooperation like this is essential,” Mattei added.

Belmont detectives are contacting victims to identify property and are working with other Peninsula law enforcement agencies regarding property and evidence not connected to Belmont crimes that was found at the residence.
