Belmont Chief of Police Speaks Out on CT Tragedy

Chief Dan DeSmidt says the department's School Resource Officer has distributed school safety information and resources for all Belmont school leaders.

As both a Police Chief and a father, I am deeply shocked and saddened by today’s unthinkable tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.  Though separated by a continent, we feel very close to Newtown on this difficult day.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, their loved ones, and our law enforcement partners who today answered the cries for help that all of us hope to never hear.

As word spread this morning, our School Resource Officer quickly collected information and resources for Belmont school leaders.  She distributed helpful websites (below) that parents and teachers can use to be prepared for discussions with students, and arranged for extra patrols around our campuses so parents and students felt supported.
