Original story: Tuesday 6:55 a.m.

Belmont police are asking for the public’s help in locating a 16 year-old autistic boy, who is missing since Monday evening.

According to Capt. Pat Halleran of the Belmont Police Dept., the boy, Tyler Edward Simmons, age 16 of Fremont, was last seen yesterday, Monday, Jan. 27 at approximately 7:00pm on the campus of Ralston Middle School (2675 Ralston Avenue). Tyler is a student at Carlmont High School.

Police say Tyler is 6’ tall, 140 pounds, with brown curly hair, green eyes and a thin goatee. He was last seen wearing a gray zip-up sweatshirt, black jeans, black beanie and white shoes. He is carrying an orange backpack, a Dell laptop computer with a black cover and a purple Nintendo DS. Tyler is developmentally equivalent to an 8-year-old and is somewhat anti-social.

Tyler and his family lived in Belmont until about 18 months ago, when they moved to Fremont, however Tyler attends Carlmont High School, in Belmont.

Police say Tyler got out of school at about 3:00 p.m. Monday, and typically goes to the Belmont Public Library after school, where he is picked up by his father between 4:30-5:00 p.m. Monday, when his father went to the library, Tyler was not there.

Family members searched locations in Belmont that were known to Tyler and contacted a custodian at Ralston Middle School, who had seen Tyler on the Ralston campus at approximately 7:00pm. The family searched the area and then contacted Belmont Police at approximately 8:15pm.

Belmont Police and search dog teams from the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office are searching in and around Ralston Middle School at the time of this release. (See accompanying photos of Tyler.)

Investigators do not suspect foul play at this time. Initial information indicates that Tyler may have left as a result of a dispute with his parents.

Anyone who sees Tyler should call 9-1-1 immediately and persons with information regarding Tyler are asked to call Belmont Police at 650-595-7400.
