Belmont Bank Robbery Suspect Nabbed

Detectives from the Belmont Police Department, working closely with the FBI and other Bay Area law enforcement agencies have identified the suspect in the on Ralston Avenue.

According to police, Duron Williams, 35, of Oakland, is also suspected of committing 10 bank robberies and one attempted bank robbery in 11 different Bay Area cities, including the and the January 2012 robbery of the First National Bank in Millbrae.

Police say that in the majority of the robberies Williams was armed with a firearm and wore a sophisticated full face mask giving him the appearance of an elderly white male.

Oakland and San Leandro police located Williams on May 29 in the 4100 block of MacArthur Boulevard in Oakland. He was taken into custody without incident. 

Search warrants were executed at Williams’ residences in Oakland and Hayward and detectives located additional evidence implicating him in multiple bank robberies, as well as a stolen van that Williams used during some of the robberies.

Currently, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office has charged Williams with several counts of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, being armed with a firearm during the commission of a felony, convicted felon in possession of a firearm/ammunition and vehicle theft, relating to crimes that occurred in their county.  The FBI is coordinating possible federal prosecution of Williams.
