Arrest Made in Burlingame High Bomb Threat Case

The bomb scare caused a two-hour lock down and evacuation of the campus Friday.

 

A female student has been arrested in connection with a  that caused a two-hour lock down and evacuation of Burlingame High School on Friday, authorities said Monday afternoon.

The student is believed to have used a male student's email account to send a message alleging he had a gun and a bomb to Burlingame High administrators, and warning them that they had better lock down the school.

The female student allegedly used the male student's account without his knowledge, after he had logged into his email on a school computer and momentarily walked away, police said.

No motive for the incident was released. The female student has been released on bail.

The incident prompted an evacuation of the campus, and police detained the male student that day. A subsequent search of his person, property, and the entire school revealed no weapons or explosive devices.

The suspected student was cooperative with police and questioned thoroughly by investigators after the incident; however, based on his statement and the facts known to investigators at the time, he was not arrested.

The female student has been charged with making criminal threats and falsely reporting a bomb.
