Accused Mills-Peninsula File Thief Gets Another Trial Delay

Katherine Asimos, 50, is accused of stealing over 1,000 patient documents and writing unauthorized checks against her elderly father's account in separate theft cases.

 

Lawyers representing a Mills-Peninsula Medical Center employee who prosecutors say  were granted a procedural motion earlier this week that figures to delay the trial again.

Katherine Asimos, 50 of Millbrae, is charged with misdemeanor theft in separate cases. Prosecutors say she stole over 1,000 patient documents, telling authorities she brought the files home because she’d fallen behind on her work.

Prosecutors say she also wrote checks against her elderly father’s account without his permission.

In a pretrial conference on Tuesday, Commissioner Susan Jakubowsky granted a defense motion to vacate a trial date scheduled for June 11. Jakubowsky issued a continuance to June 7, which would be the soonest a new trial date could be set.

Asimos’ trial in both cases has already been delayed three times since it was originally set for Feb. 21, 2012.
