By Capt. Mike Maskarich

On behalf of the California Highway Patrol Redwood City Area, I would like to wish the communities we serve and all Californians a safe and happy holiday season.  It is the CHP's mission to ensure safety and service to all California motorists.  Our goal is to reduce tragic injuries and deaths which result from traffic collisions each year.

Please realize we need your help and support in achieving these goals.  There will be many social activities during the holidays involving the consumption of alcoholic beverages.  It is important to remember a person's driving ability can be impaired after only one drink and this impairment combined with driving can result in the unnecessary loss of life.  Additionally, being sleepy or fatigued while driving can be as dangerous as being under the influence of alcohol or drugs.  If you are tired, get some rest before getting behind the wheel.

Remember, if you drink, do not drive! To keep the highways and roadways in your communities safe from impaired drivers, we will continue to deploy extra officers to patrol. These officers will be alert and seeking impaired motorists, speeding drivers, distracted drivers, and persons not wearing safety belts.
