Law enforcement in San Carlos conducting traffic enforcement Friday night issued more than 50 citations to distracted and speeding drivers, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.
Members of the sheriff's motorcycle enforcement unit issued the citations for violations such as speeding and running stop signs, as well as turning violations and using a cellphone while driving.
The traffic crackdown targeted locations throughout the city selected because of their number of complaints or accidents and vehicle volume. The enforcement comes at the close of the California Highway Patrol's month-long statewide Distracted Driving Awareness Month, in which the San Carlos Police Bureau participated. April is also National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

These 'distracted drivers' can cause real harm. If we are serious about enforcement - we need enforcement as often as possible. People know their chances of being stopped are slim. If word gets around the enforcement is serious that can change.
