49ers' Aldon Smith Arrested on Suspicion of DUI, Marijuana Possession

Smith was involved in a solo vehicle crash on Friday morning in San Jose.

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith was arrested in San Jose this morning on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of marijuana, police and Santa Clara County sheriff's officials said.

Smith, 23, was arrested at about 7 a.m. after a solo-vehicle crash on Bentley Ridge Drive, San Jose police spokeswoman Sgt. Heather Randol said.

Smith was not injured in the crash and was arrested shortly afterward, Randol said. She said there was no one else in the vehicle.

The star linebacker was booked into county jail on suspicion of DUI as well as the marijuana offense, sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Kurtis Stenderup said.

He was released earlier this morning after posting $5,200 bail, Stenderup said.

The arrest is the latest legal problem for Smith, who is facing two separate civil lawsuits filed by people who said they were shot at a party he held at his home near San Jose last year.

Smith has 3.5 sacks through the first two games of the 2013 season for the 49ers, who are 1-1 and host the Indianapolis Colts at Candlestick Park in San Francisco on Sunday afternoon.
