Obituary: William Hardwick, Former Belmont Mayor

Col. William Howard Hardwick (U.S.A.F. ret.)

October 12, 1926 - January 13, 2014

Resident of Scotts Valley

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 4th at 2pm in Scotts Valley for William H. Hardwick who went to be with his Creator and Lord Jesus Christ Monday January 13th 2014 at the age of 87.  

Born in Los Angeles, Mr. Hardwick attended Twin Falls High School in Idaho his junior and senior years and enlisted in the Army Air Corps following graduation in 1945. He later attended Oklahoma State University, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture. He remained active in the Air Force Reserves, attaining the rank of colonel, and was stationed in McClellan AFB in California. Mr. Hardwick’s career of more than 30 years in Land Development and Architecture began in Missouri working as a developer with Frisco Railroad and continued with H.K. Ferguson Co. in San Francisco, CA , Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA  and retired in 1995 with Southern Pacific Railroad.

A longtime resident of Belmont, he was very civic minded and served as Mayor of Belmont for multiple terms and as a city council member for 19 years. Mr. Hardwick was past president of the San Mateo County Fair Board. He attended Central Peninsula Bible Church and served as elder for San Mateo Presbyterian Church.  Upon moving to Scotts Valley 16 years ago with his wife of 63 years, Noma, he attended both Santa Cruz Bible Church and Felton Bible Church. He was proud of his memberships in both SIRS and the Masonic Lodge.

Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, making friends and playing games.  He always had a smile on his face, he had a wonderful sense of humor and he enjoyed making people laugh.  He was a great role model and example to his family and friends of what a Christian man should be.  He will be forever remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. 

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Noma Hardwick of Aptos, his three sons and daughters-in-law, David Hardwick of Sonoma;  Kent and Donna Hardwick, and Chris and Jennifer Hardwick all of Scotts Valley.  Mr. Hardwick also leaves his five loving grandchildren, Tera, Kyle, Jace, Caitlyn, and Carson, along with many friends that they have made at Paradise Park in Felton and Spring Lakes Mobile Home Community in Scotts Valley.

Friends and family will gather on Tuesday, February 4 @ 2pm at Spring Lakes Club House (225 Mt. Hermon Road in Scotts Valley).
