I'm so sorry to hear of Tony's passing. My husband and I would often see Tony outside of his home and stop for a chat. We were once invited inside to see his pictures and hear his tales from the War. My husband once helped him type up his stories and memories. He was a great guy, full of history and always with a smile and a wave. He will be missed.

Thank you for posting this obit with info regarding the mass today for Tony. I met Tony when I was a Park Commissioner & we opened the Belmont Community Garden. Tony had one of the original garden plots and was a avid gardener. After he left the Community garden, he continued to grow many vegetables (& roses, oranges, and more) in his back yard on Belburn. I would visit him often, and received my starter of Rosemary from him/his backyard. As he got older, he would use a pcv pipe to blow seeds into the dirt so he didn't have to bend down so often! Last year, he hung his Christmas lites outside with a little help from a neighbor... and so often you would see him on his electric scooter, going shopping for fresh groceries at Carlmont & Safeway to prepare great meals for family & friends. Tony's flag should be at half-mast. He will be missed greatly!

On one of my walks last year I met Mr. DeAntonio - my greeting led to a wonderful 20 minute converstation. He loved being honored by the City of Belmont, he loved his Country and he loved his flag.

I recently saw Tony having breakfast at Cafe Bliss, apparently he was a regular there and he chatted it up with everyone at the restaurant! One happy memory we will all have of Tony was the photo he posed for last year with his grandchildren after being honored by the city for receiving the French Medal of Honor. Quite a guy.

I will miss Tony....his cheerful personality and lively discussions from his grandchildren to his WWII experiences, his garden, his little "zipcar".... He was a member of the Liguri Nel Mondo Association (descendant families from Genoa area in Italy) and attended the WWII memorabilia exhibit at Joe Garbarino's in San Rafael. Addio Tony.

I was walking my dog past Toni's house one beautiful afternoon. He was just setting up for his dinner on the porch. I joked with him that it smelled wonderful (and it really did). He insisted I take a bite. I really didn't want to interrupt his dinner, but he insisted. I took I bite of his breaded sauted shrimp and it was delicious!. I asked for the recipe and he was all to happy to share. I will miss Toni.

Thanks Joan - there is one in the sub-head of the blog I posted on School-Force Voices today; wouldRead More love if it could be corrected. Been scratching my head til I saw this post :)

Sorry about that! There's nothing I can do on my end----it's system-wide bug, which I believe isRead More fixed now. :)

I also preferred the 'old' Patch - this format makes it difficult to find articles that are aren'tRead More that old. One example was the informative article on who was running for city Council. I was having problems finding it and finally had to query on a candidate's name to find. I don't recall having that issue with the original format. Also our neighborhood had a water break line and we were without water for some hours a few Sundays ago. I tried to find out the reason for the break (because of construction or old pipes?) and could not find anything on the Patch regarding this. Not sure if they just didn't report or I just couldn't find.

Not crazy about the new Patch either. Also, I want to post-for sale, and this section is crowdedRead More with announcements, etc.

Another thing that needs to be fixed: When you go to leave a comment, it takes you over to whereRead More you have to sign in, you sign in expecting to be returned to the article on which you are commenting, but it, instead, takes you back to some different article. PLEASE FIX THIS!!!! Also, please reinstate the feature where we can sign up to be notified if/when more comments are made concerning the article(s) we've commented on so we can follow the conversation. Thank you.

what do the local Belmont restaurants think of this? do these people pay a license to the city?
Joan S. Dentler (Editor) June 4, 2013 at 07:15 am
Hi Don....thanks for your question. Yes, Off the Grid does pay a licensing fee to the city, and soRead More far, we haven't heard any concerns by local restaurants. The food trucks provide an option to a traditional restaurant---pick up and go----and they are only around 4-5 hours per week (on Mondays, typically not a big restaurant night anyway). Have you tried the food yet?
