USO Book Reveals Belmont Woman's Feelings for WWII Soldier

One page of the guestbook reads: "When the years have passed and these pages have turned yellow, I'll remember that it was here that I met one swell fellow. "

[Editor's note: The following is a posting by Denny Lawhern from the "You Know You're From Belmont When...." Facebook page.]

A tribute to those who have served their Country.

During the second World War the USO Club was located at the Emmett Store (pink building), at the corner of Ralston Ave and Old County Road and staffed by volunteers from Belmont. they provide entertainment for the troops stationed at the Belmont Army Base who were headed off to war. This is a couple of pages from the USO Guest book that we have at the History room.
Please note the entry in the book from "Dot" on May 1943.

"When the years have passed and these pages have turned yellow, I'll remember that it was here that I met one swell fellow. "

Dot was one of the young woman volunteers at the USO. Dot went on to get married and raised her family here in Belmont. Her daughter grew up in Belmont, carrying on the tradition of volunteering ,and went on to be one of Belmont's outstanding citizens. Can you guess who Dots daughter is?
