Skip the Bridge, Take the Ferry

The Bay Area's newest ferry service is scheduled to start carrying commuters between the East Bay and the Peninsula on Monday, according to the San Francisco Water Emergency Transportation Authority.

Rep. Jackie Speier, D-San Mateo, will be at a 10 a.m. ceremony at the Oyster Point Ferry Terminal to launch the new service, which will take passengers between the South San Francisco terminal and ferry terminals in Oakland and Alameda.

Assemblyman Jerry Hill, D-San Mateo, South San Francisco Mayor Richard Gabardino, and South San Francisco City Council members Kevin Mullin and Pedro Gonzales are also expected to attend.

The newest transbay service will consist of three morning rush hour departures from the East Bay, and two return trips from Oyster Point in the evening. The trip takes about 40 minutes. The fare will be $7 each way for adults, though tickets will be free for all passengers through Friday.
