Halos and Pitchforks: Week One

Praise outnumbered pokes in the first installment of Halos and Pitchforks.

We'll start with the HALOS:

  • A reader said, "Well, I'm happy to report that there are still some angels to be found at the USPS. After my bad experience this morning at the Belmont Post Office (see Pitchfork below), I want to give a halo to the Redwood City us process our passport application. Many thanks."
  • A reader sends a HALO to "Matt Kowitt of the San Carlos Charter Learning Center board of directors for his tireless contributions to the community in driving the schools charter renewal. His positive attitude and boyish charm have helped create a great partnership with the sponsoring San Carlos School District. It's on the border of San Carlos and Belmont so I decided to throw this in."
  • A reader sends a HALO to "The columnist who has THE most creative headers, and makes me LMAO every morning!"

And now for the PITCHFORKS:

  • A reader, who sent the above HALO, first submitted this PITCHFORK:  "I was hoping to issue more halos (see above HALO) than pitchforks, but just have to issue a big pointy pitchfork to an employee at the Belmont Post Office who, after learning I needed expedited passports for my kids and drove all over the peninsula getting the needed paperwork together, having the kids be late for school and convincing my husband to be late to work, would not make an exception to see us this morning as we all stood at the counter paperwork in hand (not realizing an appointment was needed) and she sat in the back having her morning coffee. Once again, the government worker goes the extra mile to help out a neighbor. (Insert sarcasm here.)"
  • A reader sends a PITCHFORK to "The sneaky fellow who regularly throws sample landscape ROCKS in little plastic bags on my driveway under the cover of darkness. Does he really hope to make a sale this way!? Really?"
