The Belmont Redwood Shores Little League (BRSLL) 12-year-old team is together again for the third year in a row, winning the District 52 title in 2011 and 2012 and off to a great start again this year winning their first game over the weekend against tough rival team San Mateo National (SMN), 19-1. The team is managed by Rudy Lopez, and coached by Kevin Lee and Peter Anderson.

Sean Lee was throwing heat on the mound for BRS with Dom Susa catching. SMN scored 1 run in the 1st inning and BRS was just getting warmed up. In the top of the 2nd inning, Josh Fong hit a single, with Taylor Douglis walked followed by Ryan Anderson drilling a line drive to center field for an RBI.

Sean Lee found his groove and struck out the SMNs 1-2-3, ending the 2nd inning in a tie, 1-1.With 2 runners on base for BRS, no runs came in.  Lee was throwing heat as he again struck out the SMN batters 1-2-3, ending the 3rd inning still in a tie 1-1.

Top of the 4th inning, Jake Stulbarg the rookie on the team made up for lost time by smacking the ball over the fence for the first homerun of the game. The BRS bats continued with Zach Wong hitting a single followed by Luke Bugbee crushing a line drive into centerfield. With 2 runners on Marcelo hit a double into left field driving in 2 RBIs, followed by Nicolas Lopez who hit a ground ball into center field for another RBI, ending the top of the inning, 5-1.

Lee continued his magic as he smoked 3 more batters 1-2-3 ending the 4th inning, 5-1.In the 5th inning the players were warmed up and ready to go as Dom Susa smacks the ball into the fence in center field for a single with Bugbee relieving Susa as a runner quickly stealing 2nd,  3rd and ultimately home. Douglis ripped the ball into right field for a single and RBI, bringing the score up to 7-1 with no outs.

The dream team is back with everyone hitting including singles by Anderson, Daylin McLemore, Lopez, Fong, Bugbee, Daniel Friis, followed by Brad Shimabuku who cracked a double, Marcelo laying down the perfect bunt, and just when the fans couldn’t believe it was now 12-1 with no outs, Lee, Susa, and Marcelo all 3 hit it out of the park in the top of the 5th inning, taking the score up to 19-1 as we entered into the bottom of the 5th inning.

The tides turned quickly, SMN now needed 9 runs to stay alive in the game, Lopez replaced Lee on the mound and Fong relieved Susa as catcher and together they struck out the 1st batter, 2nd batter hit a single to left field but he tried to steal 2nd and Fong gunned it to Lee at short who got him out on the tag. With 2 outs, Lopez was replaced on the mound by Shimabuku who struck out the last batter, ending the game 19-1.
