Time to "Open" Waterdog Lake Loop!

Waterdog Lake Loop Trail Work

We will be working Saturday 4/20 9AM to Noon.  It is Earth Day and a lot of other events are available but why not come help us?

Well it won't be officially open but this work day is intended to finish off the two short entrance section to the trail.  One entrance is to the right of the bench that is on the right side of the dam as you look at the lake.  The other is above the "pavers" which is the steep section just to the left of the dam.

As many of you know who have had an eye on these posts, we have been building this trail for a while.  Originally we created very narrow temporary entrances intended to be somewhat hidden as we began digging the trail.  Early on, the trail was unusable beyond where we had built it.  For a good while, we called the trail "Closed Under Construction" because it was unsafe and lead you into Poison Oak patches.  This year we changed the signs to "Under Construction" to indicate you are allowed to use the trail but there might be obstacles or wet areas.

Although we will not be completely finished, we are ready to open up the entrances and make it look more inviting.  People have been using the trail for some time and its been very rewarding hearing some of the excited comments on the days we've been out there working. The trail is not completely finished but is very easy to walk and you should go take a look if you haven't yet. I've seen Parents and Grandparents with young kids using it so it is definitely ready for all ages.

Some people are still confused about the trail when they get to the lake.  Along the south (left) side, there is an old walking path right along the lake level.  That is "open" and a good trail to use if you want to try fishing etc.  But that trail ends after a couple hundred yards and leaves you wandering around in a Willow forrest.

The new alignment we have been working is higher and much wider.  When you are on it it is obvious.  When we improve the entrances it will become more obvious.  Also and importantly, the city is nearly ready to construct a bridge across the concrete spillway on the dam so those steep pavers can be avoided.

Thanks to everyone who has helped over the years.  Please come join us again this week!

9AM at the Dam

Wear long sleves and long pants, sturdy shoes and wear gloves if you can.  Bring water and a good attitude!

Cheers,
