You Better Not Drink, You Better Not Drive

CHP is telling you why....they will aggressively be seeking those who choose to drive drunk, and setting up sobriety checkpoints at various locations.

Before you have another cup of eggnog, be warned that the Redwood City Office of the  (CHP) will conduct a sobriety checkpoint starting Friday.

"Because there tends to be more people out driving on the weekends and in the holidays in general, there can be more people driving under the influence," said Art Montiel, public information officer for the CHP.

There’s an exit that responsible drivers can spot and take if they want to avoid the checkpoint. But drunk drivers, Montiel said, often don't see the alternate exit and proceed through the checkpoint.

The CHP is asking the public to designate a driver if they allow alcohol to be a part of their evening.

“We just want people to drive safe and have a backup plan if their designated driver falls through,” Montiel told Patch.

The CHP will release the exact location of the checkpoint two hours before the DUI operation begins.
