In the Spirit of Giving, NDNU Presents "A Christmas Carol"

The musical adaptation of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" opens this Friday at NDNU Theatre. The production is the university's gift to the community---all performances are free.

For the twenty-sixth year, Notre Dame de Namur University (NDNU) and The Performing Arts Company celebrate the spirit of giving learned by Ebenezer Scrooge in “A Christmas Carol: The Gift,” the longest running musical adaptation of Charles Dicken’s “A Christmas Carol” in the Bay Area. NDNU Theatre will offer free performances of the musical from December 9-18 as a gift to the community.

This holiday treat features the Alan Menken/Lynn Ahrens/Mike Ockrent musical adaptation of “A Christmas Carol,” which was brought to life in a television version by Kelsey Grammer and is performed annually at Madison Square Garden.

The NDNU production traditionally features professional production elements such as an elaborate mobile set, several thousand costume elements, sound system and properties. This year audiences will be treated to a wide array of lighting and special effects generated by recently installed control systems and movable lighting instruments, purchased with funds donated to The Gift by individuals and organizations.

This gift keeps on giving to those in need in the community. Attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item or new toy to be distributed to organizations such as Second Harvest Food Bank.

A treasured holiday experience for Bay Area residents, “A Christmas Carol: The Gift” is also an annual tradition for many talented actors, singers and dancers. The cast includes over seventy performers, many of whom perform with professional theatre, dance and opera companies during the year.

A gala performance will be presented December 9 at 7 p.m. followed by a reception in the elegant Ralston Hall Mansion, to offset production costs. Tickets for the gala performance are $50 general, $20 for children under 12.

Free performances of “A Christmas Carol: The Gift” are December 10, 15, 17 and 18 at 2 p.m., and December 10, 11, 16, and 17 at 7:30 p.m. For more information and to order tickets, visit http://www.christmascarolthegift.org.

Hi Carmen....thank you for your post. Can you be more specific about the location of the dangerousRead More driveway? Can you add a photo?

Thanks Joan - there is one in the sub-head of the blog I posted on School-Force Voices today; wouldRead More love if it could be corrected. Been scratching my head til I saw this post :)

Sorry about that! There's nothing I can do on my end----it's system-wide bug, which I believe isRead More fixed now. :)

I also preferred the 'old' Patch - this format makes it difficult to find articles that are aren'tRead More that old. One example was the informative article on who was running for city Council. I was having problems finding it and finally had to query on a candidate's name to find. I don't recall having that issue with the original format. Also our neighborhood had a water break line and we were without water for some hours a few Sundays ago. I tried to find out the reason for the break (because of construction or old pipes?) and could not find anything on the Patch regarding this. Not sure if they just didn't report or I just couldn't find.

Not crazy about the new Patch either. Also, I want to post-for sale, and this section is crowdedRead More with announcements, etc.

Another thing that needs to be fixed: When you go to leave a comment, it takes you over to whereRead More you have to sign in, you sign in expecting to be returned to the article on which you are commenting, but it, instead, takes you back to some different article. PLEASE FIX THIS!!!! Also, please reinstate the feature where we can sign up to be notified if/when more comments are made concerning the article(s) we've commented on so we can follow the conversation. Thank you.

what do the local Belmont restaurants think of this? do these people pay a license to the city?
Joan S. Dentler (Editor) June 4, 2013 at 07:15 am
Hi Don....thanks for your question. Yes, Off the Grid does pay a licensing fee to the city, and soRead More far, we haven't heard any concerns by local restaurants. The food trucks provide an option to a traditional restaurant---pick up and go----and they are only around 4-5 hours per week (on Mondays, typically not a big restaurant night anyway). Have you tried the food yet?
