On Kevin! On Charles! On Belmont Cyclists.....It's Holiday Light Ride Night

The annual Passion Trail Bikes Christmas Lights Ride is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 18.

Passion Trail Bikes in Belmont works to build community among our customers with weekly dirt rides in the summer and the occasional festive gathering such as our annual Christmas Lights Ride.

This year's Christmas Lights Ride is Wednesday, Dec. 18, starting at 7:00 p.m. at  Passion Trails Bikes in Belmont.  Passion Trails Bikes is located at 415 Old County Rd., behind NAPA Auto Parts.

As seen on the map, we do a loop and end up in San Carlos at the Eucalyptus Street white lights spectacle, then its back to the shop for some hot cider and good cheer.

Everyone is welcome to join us but cyclists must have some experience since we will be riding public streets at night.  The main route is 6.2 miles and has two pretty good hills; the family (easier) route is 4.5 miles with one pretty good hill.

Last year we had almost 60 riders, and most decorated their bikes with lights. One ambitious rider even created a sleigh. We take a pretty mellow pace and wave to the people in their houses along the way.  We group up a few times before heading down Eucalyptus Street in San Carlos to revel in the lights.

The Belmont Police Department gives us an escort across El Camino Real and helps us make the left turn onto Sixth Avenue as we get started.

Last year that worked out great for everybody, the cars thought it was cool, the riders were waving and having a good time and we got through the intersection super fast so everyone could keep getting where they need to be.

We will gather at the shop starting about 6:30 p.m. (or a little before if you need to check out your bike) and head out about 7 p.m.  The loop takes about two hours counting the time we spend on Eucalyptus Street.

If you would like to join us, be ready for cold weather but have layers on as you will heat up on the first hill.

(Note: Riders must be responsible for themselves and their children. Riders must be familiar with riding on the streets and your bike must be ready to go. We will keep an eye out for everyone once we are on the road but we will not wait for people who have bike problems before we get started.)

We look forward to spreading some cheer again this year!
