Notre Dame Elementary Students Raise Money, Awareness For Local Causes

Notre Dame Elementary School seventh graders Kristin Smoot, Kelsey Brown and Isabelle Maenle recently spearheaded a drive to raise money for breast cancer awareness.  The girls hand made hundreds of pink ribbons that were sold to students and teachers at NDE.  

Their efforts raised $458.25 and was donated the American Cancer Society to fund breast cancer research.

Last month, Notre Dame Elementary School fifth graders also hosted the annual “Trick or Treat So All Can Eat” food drive benefitting the St. Vincent de Paul Homeless Help Centers of South San Francisco and San Mateo. Over 1,600 pounds of food was collected.  

Students from 1st through 8th grades competed to see which grade could bring in the most canned foods and non‐perishable goods, as calculated by weight. The hallways of the school soon filled with cans of tuna, beans and pasta. Fifth grade students tabulated the number of ounces each grade brought in and tracked it on a main bulletin board.
