SISTER HELEN PREJEAN AT NDNU

World famous Sister Helen Prejean, author of Dead Man Walking, will be speaking at Notre Dame de Namur University Chapel on September 27, 2013, at 7:00 p.m., sponsored by the university and by Comunidad San Dimas, Inc., an ecumenical Christian ministry to the imprisoned. Sister Helen began her prison ministry in 1981 when she dedicated her life to the poor of New Orleans. While living in the St. Thomas housing project, she became pen-pals with Patrick Sonnier, the convicted killer of two teenagers, sentenced to die in the electric chair of Louisiana’s Angola State Prison.  Her book, and the movie starring Sean Penn, was based on Sonnier's life.  Here to promote the publication of the 20th Anniversary of her famous book, with a new sub-title: Dead Man Walking - The Eyewitness Account of the Death Penalty That Sparked a National Debate. It has three new afterwords written by the author; Susan Sarandon, who won an Oscar for her role as Prejean; and Tim Robbins, the movie's director.  The death penalty is one of the great moral issues facing our country, yet most people rarely think about it and very few of us take the time to delve deeply enough into this issue to be able to make an informed decision about it. This invitation asks you to take that time, to learn, to explore and to reflect. We hope you will accept our invitation.
Adults: $15, Students: $10, At the door: $20.  Sister Helen will meet you and sign your book after her talk.  For tickets, call (415) 762-2300.
