Millionth Tree Planting Celebration!

SMC 4-H Youth plant millionth tree in celebration of 7-year long project to combat climate change by planting trees.   The project, founded in 2007 by then 14 year old Pacifica 4-H'er Laura Webber was inspired by Al Gore's movie An Inconvenient Truth.    Since the first tree was planted in San Mateo County in 2008, over 100,000 youth in the US and around the world have planted 999,999 trees.  Julien Levy, 15, of Belmont 4-H is the current Teen Leader of this international service learning project, and has worked with local youth to plant a number of the trees in San Mateo County.   For more information, check the 4-H Million Trees facebook page!
