Carlmont Hills Vegetation Fire

Suspicious Activity Sparks Vegetation Fire

On May 11th at approximately 10:52am a vegetation fire was reported to the Belmont Fire Department. A group of bike riders, which had been downhill, bike riding behind Carlmont High School reported the fire initially. When fire crews arrived on scene they had trouble determining the best access to the fire. An incident command post was established by the Belmont Fire Department at 1160 Village Drive. Ground units were sent into the brush from the lower side of the hill to lay a fire hose from an awaiting engine on Village Drive. However an off duty fire fighter advised an ideal location to access the fire would be in the 2400 block of Hastings Drive. Calfire deployed one engine and one type 3 fire vehicle to the 2400 block of Hastings Drive. Crews were able to successfully access and control the fire within an hour. Multiple witnesses stated they saw a teenage boy wearing a blue shirt running up the ridge, towards Hastings Drive, away from where the fire started.
