Op-Ed: Charles Stone, 'Time For Healing....For Coming Together"

Newly elected Belmont City Councilmember Charles Stone thanks supporters and fellow candidates.

Although the results are still only "semi-official" at this time, they appear unlikely to change. The voters have spoken and I, Eric Reed, and Warren Lieberman are their  choices. I am grateful for and honored by the outpouring of support from all over Belmont.  I look forward to serving you all to make sure we create the best Belmont possible.

I want to congratulate Eric Reed and Warren Lieberman for their success.  They worked hard to assure themselves victory. I also want to congratulate candidates Mike Verdone, Gladwyn D'Souza, and Kristin Mercer for their hard work during this campaign.  Walking precincts, talking to voters, taking questions at public forums, researching the issues -- it takes a toll and I admire anyone with the courage to throw their hat in the ring for elected office. And I think Mike Verdone deserves all of our admiration for caring enough to get involved at such a young age, committing to running for council, and then putting in many long hours of campaigning.

As we go through this time of change, it's important to recognize our outgoing leaders as well.  Councilmembers Coralin Feierbach and Dave Warden spent many years working hard for what they believed was best for Belmont. It is no secret that I didn't always agree with their decisions, but I have nothing but the utmost respect for their many years of public service.  And congratulations to Mr. Warden for his victory in the water district race.

The last several years have featured divisiveness and fractures in our town.  Now is the time for healing...for coming together.  Though it is a cliche, I really do believe that Belmont will be at its best when we work together.  My heartfelt gratitude for all of your support.

Best,
Charles Stone
